What is Gran Fondo SPORTIVE

The ToC Gran Fondo Sportive is completely unique to any other event in the UK. Not only do we use a nice flat route, but it’s fully closed to all traffic too!

This event caters for riders of all abilities and aspirations.

The Sportive is split into average speed start groups, allowing riders to ride with others of the same ability. So, as a beginner it’s less daunting and as a rider with lots of experience, you’ve got the clear road ahead to aim for that ultimate personal best time!

Enjoy a day in the saddle around the beautiful Cambridgeshire countryside, in the amazing weather (we hope) and ride alongside 8000 other riders.

What is a Gran Fondo

Gran Fondo is the cycling equivalent of the London Marathon with elite athletes starting in a Race (Gran Fondo Race) at the front followed by a Sportive (Gran Fondo Sportive). The Golazo Cycling Gran Fondos are held on Closed Roads.

In the Race Gate there are 18 separate races one for each of the UCI Masters Age / Gender Classifications. A current Race License will be required for those who want to be racing against their own UCI age / gender groups.

In the Sportive Gate there are 5 different estimated speed pens for riders to start in.

The Race Gate and the Sportive Gate make up the Gran Fondo.  The Golazo Cycling Gran Fondos are fully supported* and produced to make riders feel like a Pro for the day.  The first three of each age / gender classification, in the Race Gate, are invited to receive medals and prizes on the podium.  A number of the Golazo Cycling Gran Fondo events are part of the UCI Gran Fondo World Series meaning that they are qualifying events for the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships.

*Riders suffering minor mechanical problems such as punctures must be self-sufficient to return to the HQ.  Riders unable to be self-sufficient will be re-patriated but may face a substantial wait.
