The UCI Gran Fondo is the UK’s ONLY qualifying event for the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships Road Race, which gives amateur riders the chance to qualify and represent their country. The event is held on fully closed roads and is a mass participation event, with a mass start.
Over the past 5 years at the Tour of Cambridgeshire, we’ve had separate Race and Gran Fondo events, which would collectively make up the qualifier event. But in 2020, we’re going back to what a truly authentic Gran Fondo really is, with a mass start. Each Masters age group will have it’s own mass start and start time. So the only way to qualify for the World’s in 2020 is to ride in the ToC Gran Fondo.
The qualification distances for Women and 60+ Men is the Medio distance (distance to be confirmed), 19-59 Men is the Gran Fondo (distance to be confirmed). A race license is not required to take part in the UCI Gran Fondo, but there is a minimum age of 19yrs of age on 31st December in the year of the event.
The fastest 25% of riders in each Masters age group (qualification places determined by number of starters in each age group) will be invited to ride for their nation at the UCI GF World Championships.
The Gran Fondo will sell-out quickly, so enter today to guarantee your place on the start line.
