The UCI Gran Fondo World Series concept is aimed at both the competitive riders who either just miss the skills and talent to become a Pro Elite rider or who still want to compete at a high level at a later age, as well as riders who like to keep fit, finish the event and like to ride for fun.
The UCI Granfondo World Series (former UCI World Cycling Tour and UCI Amateur World Championships) launched in 2011 and is a series of UCI-sanctioned races held all over the world. Some 20 qualifier events will qualify the top 25% in each age group to the UCI Granfondo World Championships, the former UWCT Final and UCI Masters Road World Championships, where the champions are awarded with the coveted rainbow jersey.
The UCI Gran Fondo World Championships will be held in Varese, Italy in 2018.
The Tour of Cambridgeshire is the UK’s qualifier event for the UCI GF World Championships, which will be in held in Varese, Italy in 2018. The top 25% rider finisher times within each age group in the Chrono and also the Gran Fondo Race and Gran Fondo Sportive collectively, will qualify for the World Championships. At the World Championships, all riders must hold a current ‘Full Racing License’ from their National governing body.
The competition at the World Championships is based upon the UCI Masters age / gender classifications, which are:
• 19-34yrs
• 35-39yrs
• 40-44yrs
• 45-49yrs
• 50-54yrs
• 55-59yrs
• 60-64yrs
• 65-69yrs
• 70+yrs
Ages are determined as of December 31st in the year of the competition.
